Slasher movies are an iconic subgenre within horror movies. Slasher is a bit of a mixture of bloody murders, villains with sharp weapons, torture and intense pursuit of the victims. Many movies in the genre have insanely high death tolls and often very graphic and almost shocking violence. It sounds like something you shouldn't watch, but there is a large dedicated fan base for these movies and their adrenaline-inducing intensity. A characteristic feature of many slasher movies is a seemingly invincible villain who hunts down and murders his victims in the most brutal ways. The murder methods are imaginative and often involve weapons such as meat hooks, machetes, chainsaws and axes. One of the most iconic characters in the slasher genre is Michael Myers from "Halloween" (1978), directed by John Carpenter. Myers is a mass murderer, known for his masking. The character has appeared in several sequels and has become an iconic figure for slasher movies. Another famous villain is Freddy Krueger from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (1984), directed by Wes Craven. Freddy is an evil spirit that haunts the dreams of teenagers and murders them in their sleep. The movies have high suspense and mix the real and the supernatural. In Denmark, there have not been that many slasher movies, but the movies "Kollegiet" (2010), "Sidste Time" (2014) and "Breeder" (2020) have revolved around the slasher theme. Slasher movies have a special place in the horror genre because of the often intense violence, brutal evil - and its graphic presentation. At the same time, there is often an underlying twist about the killer's traumatic history as the cause of the madness.
